Review of the Year

"Behind every number there is a story: a life saved, a future transformed, someone given new hope and strength. And none of this could be delivered were it not for our supporters - people like you." - Eddie Lyle

It's not Open Doors staff alone who do this. It's not those in the office or even those out in the field. It's all of us – all who work, pray, give, speak out, take action, raise money, make a noise.

We form a chain, so that Christians don't have to live in chains. We're linked. We're family. And when one member suffers, all members suffer.

So this is what we do, together.

We are all Open Doors. And this is what we did last year.

Financial Review 2011

2011 Financial Review

"You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance." - Psalm 65:11

Statement of Financial Activities for the Year Ended 31 December 2011

In a challenging economic environment and through the sacrificial giving of supporters, income for the year totalled £6,727,255 (an increase of £282,925 over 2010).

As a result of your generosity, Open Doors was able to change the lives of 10,000 Secret Children and provide Bibles, training and an education for many persecuted Christians. Your gifts helped pay for centres where children could be sheltered and pastors trained, as well as enabling many Christians living in Egypt and the Middle East in the midst of the Arab Spring to receive practical support.

Through the financial contributions of our supporters, Open Doors was able to take the first steps in establishing a response centre for persecuted Christians, based in Witney. Thank You!

Financial Review 2011
*In addition to the 5,667,095 spent on charitable activities, Open Doors spent £138,279 on governance and £738,191 on generating funds.

Secret Children campaign
Through the donations of supporters we were able to financially support children in 31 different countries through trauma counselling workshops, orphanages, schools and summer camps.

Providing Bibles and Christian literature
Over £631,000 was devoted to the provision of Bibles and other Christian literature. Deliveries to the Middle East increased significantly as borders opened up in Tunisia and Libya during the Arab Spring unrest.

Leadership and discipleship Training
Over £1 million went towards Open Doors training programmes. Over half was used in the Middle East, to prepare Christians for future persecution. As a result, training in the Middle East rose fourfold.

Sustaining lives, supporting livelihoods
Open Doors UK and Ireland contributed nearly £1.2 million, mainly towards projects in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. This included support for Christians affected by last year's floods in Pakistan.

Speaking out in advocacy
Supporters in the UK & Ireland sent 19,000 messages to foreign embassies and politicians in support of persecuted Christians. A further £55,000 was given to pay for advocacy projects in the Middle East.

Engaging and mobilising the church
In total 1165 people – an increase of 24 per cent on 2010 – volunteered to speak in churches, host tea parties, help in the office, write letters, run marathons and organise prayer groups and other events in support of the persecuted church.

Raising awareness, encouraging prayer
Persecution is on the increase, and we are using new technology and methods to tell the stories behind the headlines and connect supporters spiritually and practically with those we serve.

Preparing the next generation
BLACKOUT, a campaign encouraging young people to make a noise by keeping quiet and give something up for the persecuted church, was one example of how Open Doors has adapted to the changing face of youth culture.
