Church Representative
UK & Ireland only (Unpaid, volunteer position)
Will you be a voice for the Persecuted Church?
Open Doors Church Representatives are ordinary people following in Brother Andrew's footsteps. They take the message of the Persecuted Church to Christians in their own fellowship, informing and encouraging them to get involved.
Open Doors is building a team of messengers with the goal of making sure that every Christian in the UK and Ireland is aware of the persecution that so many of their brothers and sisters suffer. We need you to be part of this team!
Catching the vision
"The Bible in my lap lay open, pages ruffling in the morning breeze. I put down my hand to hold them still and found that I was looking at the book of Revelation. My fingers were resting on the page almost as though they were pointing. 'Awake,' said the verse at my fingertips, 'and strengthen what remains and is on the point of death…
Could it be that God was speaking to me, telling me that my life work was where His remnant Church was struggling for its life? Was I to have some part in strengthening this precious remnant?"
Fifty years ago, Brother Andrew became the first ever Open Doors messenger. This was a hugely significant moment. Since that day Open Doors has helped thousands of persecuted Christians. The reality of our world today is that persecution has increased and the need for messengers continues.
We praise God that our team of Church Reps has grown significantly in recent years, but there is still a long way to go. We need people like you to join us in getting the message out to the 48,000 churches throughout the UK & Ireland.
We pray that you would look back in years to come on the reading of this web page as a significant moment – the moment when you became a messenger for the Persecuted Church.
What is involved?
When you join the team of Open Doors Church Representatives, you become the messenger to the particular community of believers you are involved with. This could be a church or Christian Union – in fact any group of committed Christians. By sharing the message with this community, you raise awareness and provide opportunities for people to get involved in caring for our persecuted brothers and sisters.
How Open Doors will support you
We are here to support and encourage you in any way we can. We do this through:
- praying for you and your church.
- keeping you informed and resourced. When you join us you will receive a welcome pack containing ideas to get you started. Additional helpful resources and updates are then sent in the bi-monthly Church Reps Resources. being available at the office to support you.
- supporting you locally through your Area Representative. They are available to come and speak at your church or group, and help in any way they can.
- bringing the Church Rep team together. We organise 'Appreciation Events' where Church Representatives in a particular area can meet together for mutual encouragement.
Robert shares his experience as an Open Doors Church Rep
Many Christians are still unaware of the persecution that their brothers and sisters face everyday.

James: Simply put, being a Church Rep means keeping your church informed about, and involved in supporting persecuted Christians. How do you go about doing this at your church?
Robert: I make full use of the materials Open Doors provides by putting them on the church noticeboards and making people aware of them. I also prepare five or six prayer items to bring to the church prayer meeting each month. There is also the video library that is available to me for using in special church meetings or my home group. |
James: There will be people reading this who are considering becoming Church Reps. What would you say to them?
Robert: I have found it extremely rewarding. It gives me insight into what is happening to Christians around the world. Being a Church Rep means being able to highlight the needs of persecuted Christians and encourage the people in my church and homegroup to support them. I couldn't recommend it enough!
