Cycle Cuba
1–10 March 2008
Cuba is the Caribbean's largest and least commercialised island and one of the world's last bastions of communism.
You have the unique opportunity to engage with the work of Open Doors serving Christians facing persecution worldwide.
You will see the famous Bay of Pigs and the Sierra del Escambray mountains as well as exploring Santa Clara, Cienfuegos and Havana, as you raise funds on a sponsored cycle challenge.
Over five days, you will cycle 205 miles along quiet roads, starting from the Bay of Pigs and finishing in Cienfuegos.
As well as the hard work pedalling, there will be a chance to spend time exploring the Bay of Pigs and two days to relax in Havana.
Social and tourist activities arranged so far include an afternoon tour of Trinidad and a fiesta campesina (traditional music and dance show) one evening.
The challenge is being organised in association with Christian challenge organisers Aid International.
The minimum sponsorship level is £2500 as the cost of the trip (approx £1300) is deducted from this. Flights from London to Havana, accommodation in hotels along the way and hire of bikes are all covered.
There is also a registration fee of £250.
We are confident that, with the help of Open Doors and Aid International, you will be able to reach this target and support our brothers and sisters in Christ who face persecution.
Funds raised will go to support persecuted Christians by providing materials, training and livelihood projects. For example, your sponsorship money will equip Sunday schools with Bibles and other resources, and provide training to help men, women and children to stand strong in the face of persecution.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience Cuba, set yourself a physical and fundraising challenge and support your Christian brothers and sisters who are being persecuted.
