North Korea: A trafficked woman's precious Thank You note
15 June 2017
Every year, women desperate to escape North Korea's poverty and oppression take great risks to escape and flee to China. Vulnerable, many end up in the hands of human traffickers. To support these women, Open Doors workers they serve around 150-250 women every year with practical assistance, pastoral care and through Bible studies. This is the story of Lady H,* a trafficked North Korean woman, and a precious letter of thanks from her to you.
I am writing to you whose name and face I don't know, because I really want to say THANK YOU. I will always remember you and your loving support. I wish that one day I can meet you face to face - Lady H.
"I want to tell you about Lady H," writes an Open Doors worker. "Nobody cared about her life. She risked her life to cross the border river into China, because her family had been starving for a long time. (One of her parents almost died.)
"Lady H was actually an honoured party member. This wasn't supposed to happen to her. So, she risked her life and didn't care if she died. She had no hope for the future.
"When hiding and living in a small village nearby the mountain, she was helpless and lost without anyone. After we heard about her, we invited her to join our secret women's meetings. At that moment, Jesus came to her. It was the first time for her to hear about and to realise that there was a Jesus who paid all debts for her on the cross.
"At first, Lady H was laughing at Jesus how stupid He was. How could He die for a sinful person? However, later her cheek got wet with tears when she realised that there was someone like Jesus who actually cared about her and loved her so much. She had never heard about unconditional love."
Lady H's thank you note is to all the people who have supported her - and to everyone who has enabled her to learn about Jesus. Thank you for helping Open Doors to strengthen our persecuted North Korean family. None of this work would be possible without your support and prayers.
