Prisoners

Prisoners
Many Chinese Christians are still harassed and imprisoned for their faith. In recent years church leaders seem to have been the target, often for relatively short periods, but leaving families disrupted and congregations uncertain. Pray for those who are isolated in prison, uncertain of their future – and for their families, who share the suffering in a different form.

The Church

The Church
Praise God for the witness of the Church in China as it has faced persecution with courage and perseverance. Growing rapidly and facing dramatic changes in society, including the growth of cults, it needs wise and dynamic leadership and Spirit-filled congregations. Pray that Open Doors' training will be a strategic contribution to these goals. Pray that the Church will be united in Spirit and in truth.

Bibles

Bibles
Open Doors has distributed millions of Bibles and other Christian literature in China. But the need is still great. Pray that Christians will have their own Bible. Pray that whether Bibles come from official or unofficial sources, whether read by Christians or non-Christians, they will be understood, encourage faith and impact the way people live.

Families

Families
A rapidly changing society impacts the family. Parents see their only children caught up in the effects of globalisation, not least Western consumer culture via the internet. Husbands and wives need to apply Christian teaching in their relationships. Pray that Open Doors' training will strengthen Chinese Christian families.

Cities

Cities
China is now a land of cities and mega-cities. Once the Church was predominantly rural. Now it has to adapt to the challenges and opportunities of urban life. Praise God for the new expressions of church emerging in Chinese cities. Pray that these will not be submerged in the pressures of life in the city, but will shape the China of the future.

China

China
The Olympic Games are a source of great pride to the nation, despite international concerns about Tibet, human rights, global warming and pollution. Pray that the Games themselves will prove a stimulus to greater openness and freedom. Pray that China will become a place of religious freedom. Pray that it will use its enormous political and trading influence for good.

The Olympic Flag
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize."
– 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

Youth

Youth
Teenagers are growing up in a very different world to their parents: Western culture can conflict with the memories of severe persecution. Praise God for the efforts, supported by Open Doors, to present the Christian faith to young people. Praise God too for the spiritual hunger among students. Pray that there will be a strong and continuing witness to Christ in China’s universities.

Mission

Mission
Evangelists still take the Gospel to rural areas; cell groups witness to the urban elites. But speaking out for Christ still carries the risk of persecution. Pray for boldness for the sake of the Gospel. Pray that the Church will continue to grow in numbers and maturity. Praise God for the continuing signs of blessing as individuals and churches reach out with the love of God.
