Serving suffering sisters through literacy and Bible training

Living in a society opposed to the Gospel, Sharwali knows that she may well face suffering and persecution for her faith in the years to come. But now that she can read the Bible, she has learned to depend on the Lord Jesus and His Word – just like Martha.

With a dedicated servant heart, Martha went to great lengths to make her Lord welcome in her home. But His gentle rebuke taught Martha that her highest priority should always be to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to His Words.

Later, when Lazarus died, Martha looked to Jesus to speak words of comfort during her time of grief.

Through Open Doors' literacy and Bible training classes, persecuted Christian women around the world are also learning how to read, listen to and apply God's Word in their time of suffering.

Sharwali is one young Christian woman who is grateful for your support which has enabled her to read God's Word for the first time.

As a Christian in Pakistan, life for Sharwali's family has been hard. Her father works as a gardener. But his income is not enough to feed the family, so Sharwali also goes out to work.

Sharwali has been a housekeeper for a number of years, so she has missed out on even a basic education.

New hope

But, thanks to your support, Sharwali can now attend a special literacy programme in Lahore, sponsored by Open Doors, so new opportunities for training and employment are opening up for Sharwali.

But even more important to her, she can now read God's Word for herself. Like other Open Doors-sponsored students, Sharwali rejoices as she opens the pages of her Bible and reads God's words of comfort and encouragement.
