This densely populated country is only 60 per cent of the size of the UK; almost half of its people live on less than fifty pence a day. Muslim fundamentalists influence the government, persecuting religious minorities. Evangelists have been particular targets. New believers from Muslim families are social outcasts, often denied water from village wells, thrown out of their homes, and pressured to renounce their faith. Denominational divisions have split the evangelical churches.
Prayer
- The Church is battling false doctrines. Pray that new believers would be discipled in the truth.
- Pray that literacy work would unlock God’s Word for many and help them to grow in faith.
- Pray for the elections scheduled for December 2008. Pray that those in power would treat religious minorities fairly.
