In February 2008 Raul Castro succeeded his brother Fidel, who had been in power for nearly 50 years. A communist state with some freedom of religion, the Roman Catholic Church is by far the largest denomination. It is very difficult to register evangelical churches and obtain building permits. House churches are regulated and are not allowed to be within 2 kilometres of another house church. This is a difficult requirement in the congested cities. Periodic harassment of Christians continues.

• Pray for the new government, that they would open churches and increase freedom to worship.
• Ask God to sustain believers who are arrested and interrogated.
• Pray for increased distribution of Bibles, Sunday School material and other Christian literature throughout the country.
