This is the largest democracy in the world and has the second largest population. Tensions between Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, and Christians remain high. There are many reports of attacks on churches, kidnappings, arrests, and intimidation from Hindu extremists, particularly directed at church leaders. Eight states have anti-conversion laws preventing Hindus from becoming Christians. In Orissa state violence erupted at Christmas, leaving at least four Christians dead, and 730 houses and 95 churches burnt.

• Praise God that several denominations are standing united in response to the anti-conversion laws.
• Remember the pastors who have been beaten and arrested and ask that they would see justice.
• Pray that churches would be encouraged by Open Doors’ Standing Strong through the Storm seminars.
