While the constitution guarantees religious freedom, the Islamic majority are favoured by the government. The atmosphere is becoming more tense in the run-up to government elections in 2009. Radical Muslims continue to bring pressure on Christians, inciting violence and exploiting the law. In 2007 alone, 25 churches were attacked or demolished. Muslim-background believers have been intimidated by their families and some have received death threats.

• Praise God for the testimony of the three Sunday School teachers released last year. Pray for them as they resume life with their families and neighbours.
• Pray that the new laws regulating religious activity would not result in more Christians going to prison.
• Pray for church leaders and young people to be equipped to stand strong under persecution.
