Post-election violence in early 2008 brought Kenya into the world's spotlight. The Church is strong in Kenya, but in the north east, Islam is the dominant religion. Here, the Church faces severe persecution from Muslims, many of whom have come from neighbouring Somalia. Some churches have been closed down, and a number of Christian leaders have yielded to pressure from Muslim leaders. Some believers from a Muslim background have also been pressed to return to Islam.

Prayer

  • Pray for safety for evangelists; they are especially vulnerable when travelling in remote regions.
  • Pray that leaders would be strengthened in their faith as they immerse themselves in God’s Word.
  • Ask that the new political leaders would work together for peace and bring about religious freedom in this region.
