The country is plagued by drug-trafficking and high unemployment. Many have migrated to Russia looking for work. Islam is seen as being part of national identity. In recent years several churches have been bombed. Many Tajik believers are pressured by their relatives to return to Islam. In remote tribal areas, fundamentalist Muslims are increasing their influence. Christians are facing threats, beatings and persecution from the local authorities.

Prayer

• Praise God that, through the prison ministry of Christians, the Church has grown considerably with reformed drug addicts receiving new life in Jesus.
• Pray that the draft laws restricting religion will not be approved by the government.
• Pray for the translation of Christian materials into Tajik, that these would lead many to Christ.
