Egypt

Dates for 2012 coming soon

Imagine an ancient land of Pharaohs and pyramids, busy cities and sleepy towns. Birthplace of Moses and home of Tutankhamen. A country where Islam meets one brave church – a church that needs our encouragement!

Off the tourist trail...

Evangelical churches in particular are under constant pressure from the government. Christians may be watched by the authorities and are frequently discriminated against in the courts and in the workplace.

Many women experience severe discrimination and children may be treated unfairly at school and in their community. Muslims who convert to Christianity may be ostracised by their community, thrown out of their homes or even murdered.

Open Doors helps strengthen the church by distributing Christian literature, providing discipleship and leadership training, offering literacy and livelihood training, and supporting Muslim-background believers.

By visiting our family in Egypt you can show them that you care for them. Come, walk with them – they need your encouragement!

Itinerary

Meet and worship with local believers and church leaders, to gain a better understanding of what it is like to live as a Christian in a Muslim society. Be ready to be moved!

The itinerary will include spending time in Cairo as well as rural Egypt. You will get an opportunity to meet with staff, have fellowship with local Christians and worship with the Egyptian church.

Although every itinerary is slightly different, we hope to be able to offer you the chance to visit the Cave Church in the Garbage City under Mokattam Hills. Here you will see the reality of the poor Christian community making a living from collecting garbage from Cairo city. You may also get an opportunity to spend time in prayer during a visit to a mosque.

Please note the April and September trips have different Itineraries.

"Going to Egypt with Open Doors was a life-changing experience. I came back a different person; a person with a heart for the lost, broken and poor; a person who could make a difference; a person ready to step out of the boat and play my part." - Rhonda, Egypt Traveller 2010
