There are now Azeri evangelical churches and possibly 20,000 Azeri believers in the country – a 50-fold increase since 1990.

Christianity is associated with Russian imperialism and the Armenian occupation of much of Azeri territory.

Post-independence openness to the Gospel has been countered by resentment, rising nationalism, legal restrictions on evangelism aimed at Muslims and the propaganda of the Islamists.

• Pray that the hindrances faced by Christians would be removed and that many Azeris will find peace with God
• Pray for a strong Church with an effective witness to the majority Muslim population – in humility, sensitivity and love
• Pray for more workers and for fruitfulness.
