The constitution declares Islam to be the state religion but also provides for freedom of religion.

In general, the government respected this right in practice and did not sanction those who ignored Islamic teachings or practised other faiths.

Religious groups must register but in 2006 (unlike previous years) there were no reports that groups were denied this right.

There is no legal prohibition against open evangelism, but it is discouraged.

• There are very few evangelical Christians. Pray that their witness may be effective and fruitful
• Pray for the believers who are isolated and suffer pressure from Muslim relatives for their faith
• Ask God to open the door to effective evangelism and discipleship of new believers.
