Kuwait is the first Gulf state to have an elected Parliament; women received full political rights in 2005.

The majority of the population are foreign workers, free to practise their own religion.

Various Christian Churches are officially recognised, but the National Evangelical Church has struggled to obtain land for a new church building.

There are only a few hundred Kuwaiti believers and evangelism directed towards Muslims is strictly forbidden.
