When Boko Haram attacked her village in northern Nigeria, Rikiya and her children had to flee. They returned to find everything had gone. As a widow, Rikiya faced economic and social exclusion – she now receives loans from Open Doors partners that help her get an income from farming goats.

“Honestly, if not for the loan I received, I don’t know what I would have done,” says Rikiya.

There are so many women like Rikiya, in Nigeria and across the world, who are doubly vulnerable: each one of these women is persecuted for her faith and for her gender. Whether she’s been widowed, experienced trauma or simply doesn’t have the same economic empowerment as men in her community, your continued gifts and prayers can sow seeds of hope for your sister.

  • Every £20 could provide a widow with a loan to buy seeds for crops and other farming equipment so that she can become self-sufficient.
  • Every £47 could provide six months’ food and housing for a widow and child, and her child’s school fees.
  • Every £60* could help provide immediate trauma care for a woman in Nigeria who has been the victim of persecution.

*It costs £346 to provide care that addresses healing in all areas of her life
