Fundraising Ideas

One reason we love the World Cup is that it’s a brilliant way of getting people together. So why not use it to raise some vital funds for our persecuted church family? Here are some quick and simple ideas you could try…

1. Secret church with Chinese takeaway

2. Hold a Women’s World Cup sweepstake

Use the England v China match on Tuesday 1 August (midday kick-off) to host a unique secret church gathering. Watch the game over a lunchtime Chinese takeaway and spend time having whisper worship and praying for Christians in China. What better way to put yourself in the shoes of our Chinese family? Charge a small entry free or invite donations.

3. Sponsored footie skills

Hold a World Cup sweepstake and charge £3 per entry, which will generate almost £100! The person who picks the winning team will be crowned champion and have bragging rights. You might want to use some of the takings as prize money, but some of it could be sent to Open Doors to further help tackle persecution.

4. Five-a-side tournament

Take on a sponsored football activity, such as:

  • A five-hour football match with friends, family and people from your church, with each hour representing one of the five teams on the World Watch List at the World Cup
  • A keepy-uppy challenge involving a certain number of keepy-uppies a day throughout the tournament. You could choose 50 for the Top 50 on the World Watch List, or 360 to highlight the 360 million Christians who face persecution for their faith in Jesus.

It’s the summer, making it the perfect time to host a five-a-side tournament! Charge each player/team an entry fee and give the proceeds to Open Doors to help fund vital work with Christians who are facing injustice and persecution. During it, you could do a talk about Open Doors and hand out some goodies, like Brother Andrew’s God’s Smuggler. Give us a call on 01993 460015 to get hold of free copies.

Thank you for your interest in fundraising for Open Doors. Visit the FAQ section of our fundraising page to find out how to send us any money you’ve raised.
