Karidja* and her husband Didier* grew up as Muslims in the Ivory Coast. After they became Christians, they faced harsh persecution. When Didier died after a long illness, Karidja’s Muslim family saw her vulnerability as a golden opportunity to get her back to Islam. They tried forcing her to marry a Muslim man, and when she turned down the many offers, they confiscated clothing that she sold, and so closed down her business. But, through your support, Open Doors has helped her to start a new business. Despite difficulties Kardija remains steadfast in the Lord and continues to share her testimony with others.
Karidja’s pastor says, “She is… very steadfast in her testimony. She tries to live a real Christian life, and continues to refuse all the attractive proposals from her family to return to Islam.”
It has not been an easy road for Karidja, but there has been joy in her journey into this deeper understanding of Christ. “I have seen the favour of God in my life, and I know that my Lord Jesus is a good provider. I have learned this assurance from Christ in John 15:7: ‘If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.’”
Will you write to Karidja to help uphold her in her faith and help her continue to witness to her family?
