Susanna Koh to sue Malaysian police over her husband's abduction

It's been three years since Pastor Raymond Koh was abducted in broad daylight. His wife, Susanna, is sueing the Malaysian police who have been implicated in the abduction.

On 13 February, Susanna Koh, wife of missing Malaysian pastor Raymond Koh, marked the third anniversary of his disappearance by hosting a gathering of close friends for an evening of prayer.  

At the event, Susanna explained that she was advised to file a suit against two former inspector-generals of the police over the incident. This was because she has not received any updates about the case in which the state police were implicated. 

“We have no alternative but to turn to the last bastion of justice and truth: our judiciary,” she said. “Only time will tell whether the truth will prevail and all those who perpetrated this heinous act against a citizen of Malaysia will be brought to account for the unlawful acts.” 

Pastor Raymond Koh was abducted in broad daylight on 13 February 2017 – he has not been seen since. He is one of four people who were all abducted within months of each other.   

Pastor Raymond Koh: Special taskforce to investigate his abduction 

There is direct evidence that Raymond Koh was abducted by the Special Branch Police Department. That was the conclusion of a report by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) in April 2019 and, as a result, the government formed a task force in June to look into the matter. It was supposed to conclude its findings within six months, by December 2019.  

But by January 2020, the Home Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, said that the task force needed more time to complete the report. “I hope the report can be ready in a month and submitted to the ministry,” he had told reporters.  

Susanna’s lawyer, Datuk Gerald Gomez, explained that they cannot wait as any action against the government and public servants could only take place within the first three years, after which no action can be taken against them.  

Susanna asked those who attended to pray for the case. “Thank you for coming. Thank you for your support to keep this issue alive. But please pray with us for justice to be done as this matter is now in the hands of the judiciary,” she said.
