One pastor released and another killed after kidnapping in Nigeria

After two pastors were kidnapped in a recent attack in Plateau State, Nigeria, one has been released and the body of the other pastor found the morning after. Please pray for those grieving after this traumatic event.

Two pastors were kidnapped on 28 August in a sudden attack on a minibus carrying nine passengers across Plateau State, Nigeria. Hills Emmanuel, formerly of Dunamis Church, and Gabriel Joseph Dipak of the Christ Apostolic Church were singled out and taken by armed men, whilst the other passengers were robbed of their valuables.

The next morning, Emmanuel’s body was found with multiple stab wounds near the site of the assault. Dipak’s whereabouts were unknown following the attack, but he was later released and returned to his family.

Emmanuel had a wife named Scholastica and five children. Scholastica shared with local media that the gunmen realised that there were pastors among the minibus passengers and proceeded to focus their attack on them. They went on to say that she would not see her husband alive again.

Bishop Ayuba Matawal is a local church and community leader and spoke to Dipak shortly after his release. According to a local news source, the kidnappers, speaking in the Fulani language, had demanded that a ransom be paid by his family. It has not been confirmed if the payment was made.
