The World Watch List Parliamentary Launch
Each January, Open Doors UK & Ireland presents these findings at the World Watch List Parliamentary Launch. This event is an opportunity for MPs to engage with the issue of Christian persecution in a direct and personal way. Attendees hear first-hand accounts from Christians who have experienced persecution, bringing the raw realities of their faith to the very centre of UK decision-making.
At the 2024 launch, more than 100 MPs across many parties attended, reflecting the growing awareness of this global issue within the UK Parliament. The launch serves as a critical moment for policymakers to understand the gravity of persecution and consider what actions can be taken to support religious freedom around the world.
As we prepare for the 2025 launch, our goal remains the same: to ensure that the UK government continues to take the issue of Christian persecution seriously and to advocate for change where it is most needed. By presenting the World Watch List and advocacy report directly to MPs, we aim to keep this issue at the forefront of UK foreign policy.
Every year, millions of Christians worldwide face extreme persecution for their faith. At Open Doors, we work to ensure their stories are heard, especially by those who have the power to effect change.
One of the key ways we do this is through the World Watch List, an annual review that ranks the countries where Christians experience the most extreme persecution. Based on thorough research, the World Watch List is more than just statistics – it’s a reflection of the realities faced by believers who continue to live out their faith despite immense opposition, and it sheds light on the dangers Christians face globally.
Alongside the World Watch List, Open Doors UK & Ireland publishes an advocacy report, which delves deeper into the trends identified in the research. This report offers vital insights into how persecution is evolving, as well as strategic recommendations for policymakers. These recommendations aim to help the UK government, international bodies, and other stakeholders take effective action in response to these worrying trends.
Why it matters
The World Watch List and advocacy report not only document the challenges faced by persecuted Christians, but also offer hope. By highlighting where support is most needed and recommending actions that can be taken at both national and international levels, these reports equip policymakers with the knowledge they need to champion religious freedom effectively.
At its core, the World Watch List Parliamentary Launch is about giving a voice to those who often go unheard, ensuring that their plight remains a priority for governments and international bodies alike.
Together, we can push for real change – so no Christian faces persecution alone. Don’t wait, invite your MP to the launch today.

Go a step further
We are looking for Christians to become local representatives of the persecuted church to their MP, speaking up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. How amazing it would be to have an Advocacy Rep in every constituency in UK & Ireland, encouraging every MP to take real action in the corridors of power on behalf of our brothers and sisters who share our faith but not our freedom. If this vision excites you, then we would love to hear from you!
