Pray for Somalia, where the second bomb attack in two weeks has rocked Mogadishu

On 28 October, a bomb attack by the Islamic extremist group al-Shabaab killed at least 27 people in Mogadishu. The attack comes just two weeks after a bomb attack in the city on 14 October, which killed over 350 people. Open Doors has been informed that several Christians died in the attack, and eight are still missing.A Somali believer says, "These latest attacks have deeply affected the citizens in general. Hope was slowly returning to the country. We could walk around parts of the city at night, shopping, but now fear has returned. Please pray for us."


On 28 October, a bomb attack by the Islamic extremist group al-Shabaab killed at least 27 people in Mogadishu.

An Open Doors contact says, “The militants in broad daylight detonated a car bomb outside the hotel where politicians were set to meet, before storming the hotel, taking hostages and killing people. Many children are among the dead." The siege came to an end after a 10 hour gun battle between troops and the militants.

The attack comes just two weeks after a bomb attack in the city on 14 October, which killed over 350 people. Open Doors has been informed that several Christians died in the attack, and eight are still missing.

Please pray:

  • For comfort for all who have been affected by these devastating attacks
  • For comfort to all Christian families affected by these attacks. Christians are a very small minority here and have to worship in secret. These deaths affect them deeply. They ask specifically that we pray Ephesians 3:17-19, which says, “I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
  • For protection for the missing believers, and that they will soon be found
  • That the Lord will take these attacks, which al-Shabaab have meant for evil, and turn them for good, using them to draw many to Himself.
