Chibok parent killed in road traffic collision

Chibok parents were in a road traffic collision while travelling to the American University of Nigeria, where the majority of the girls who were released from Boko Haram captivity are studying. The parents were travelling in a convoy of buses when one bus crashed into a road maintenance truck. One parent died in the accident and several others have being injured and are being treated in hospital.

A parent of one of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls was killed in a road accident on Sunday.

Many of the Chibok parents were travelling to the American University of Nigeria, where the majority of the girls who were released from Boko Haram captivity are studying. The parents were travelling in a convoy of buses when one bus crashed into a road maintenance truck. One parent died in the accident and several others have being injured and are being treated in hospital.

This is another tragedy for the town of Chibok which is only just picking itself up after the Boko Haram kidnapping  four years ago. When Open Doors visited Chibok earlier in the year they asked for ‘fellow Christians to unite with [them] in prayer’. The greatest gift you can give a persecuted Christian is the knowledge that they're not alone. Why not write to a letter of encouragement to the Chibok parents to tell them that you are praying for them?

Despite many rumours and theories the whereabouts of the 112 girls who are still missing is unknown. Please pray for the parents for whom the trauma of not knowing causes ongoing suffering and anguish.

Please pray:

  • For comfort and provision for the family of the deceased parent
  • That those who were injured would make a speedy recovery with no lasting health problems
  • For the parents of the missing girls who still do not know what their daughter’s circumstances are
  • For continued healing for the Chibok community as this new tragedy deepens their anguish.
