Leader: President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi
Population: 24.5 million (A few thousand Christians)
Main Religion: Islam
Government: Republic
World Watch List Rank: 11
Source of Persecution: Islamic extremism/ tribal antagonism

The conflict in Yemen has allowed Islamic extremists such as al-Qaeda to take over large parts of the country, which makes being a Christian more dangerous than ever.

Islam is the state religion of Yemen, and is a strong part of tribal life. Indigenous Yemeni believers must keep their faith a complete secret - if discovered they face banishment or honour killing from their tribe, or the death penalty from the state. Several Muslim-background believers have had to go into hiding or leave the country.

Please Pray:

  • For protection for expatriate Christians in Yemen, who are legally allowed to practise their faith but face attack, abduction and death at the hands of Islamic extremists
  • For courage for secret believers in Yemen to continue to follow Jesus, despite the risks they face
  • For provision for the people of Yemen: the conflict has left 80 per cent of the population in need of humanitarian assistance.

KEEP HOPE ALIVE. PRAY. GIVE. SPEAK OUT.
